Brian Little is a seasoned project manager and the code expert at KMB architects. Brian’s appreciation for the importance of a strong command of code implications began early in his architectural career and deepened during his tenure working as the Plans Examiner for the City of Aberdeen and the Building Official for City of Hoquiam. Detail-oriented and resourceful, Brian shares his knowledge with each team and maintains volumes of code resources to inform the work of the firm.

“I’m interested in how we can execute a project. Pulling a permit is a negotiation. When I sit at a table with a client and designers, I’m sitting there representing a party that’s not present. How can we permit this and strike the balance with a sound basis in the codes?”

With a passion for design informed from 31 years’ practicing architecture, Brian is a frequent contributor on the firm’s public works projects. He performs as senior project manager on a wide variety and diverse selection of projects, from reroofing work for school districts, to remodels and life safety studies for the Department of Corrections, to construction administration. He enjoys the mentorship opportunities that come with being an associate and is constantly looking for ways to help the team by sharing resources and offering advice.  

“I really enjoy the mentoring aspect of my position. I’m surprised I didn’t become a teacher. I find that the production staff are coming to the firm with the technology background, but less architectural knowledge, so I mentor and educate them. It’s one of the biggest delights in this stage of my career.”
